How to deliver an unforgettable speech

Watch yourself speaking and experiment with pace and tone

Watch yourself speaking and experiment with pace and tone to find out what is most comfortable and sounds best, that way you can be sure you will be ready to go when the time comes to deliver your speech.

One of the most important aspects of public speaking is pronunciation, after all, there’s no point in delivering a speech if no one is going to be able to understand you!

Before going on stage run through basic verbal exercises

Before going on stage, it’s a good idea to run through a few basic verbal exercises to loosen up your tongue and ensuring you are pronouncing everything correctly.

This can be as simple as reciting your ABCs, making sure that you properly sound out each letter syllable as you do so.

Another good exercise is to run through a few tongue twisters, such as “the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog” for example. It might seem silly at first, but it can definitely make a big difference on stage!

Invest in quality audio systems

To help ensure that your speech is as clear and understandable as possible, it’s a good idea to invest in quality audio systems that will be able to project your voice right to the back of the room.

Make strong eye contact with your guests

Once you’re on stage, it’s important that you make strong eye contact with your guests and that you speak calmly and alter your tone and volume as necessary.

Try to shift your gaze fairly often, to ensure that you are covering as much of the room as possible and that everyone in the room feels as if you are speaking directly to them.

Portray an image of calm and serenity

Above all, remember that the key to good public speaking is confidence. Even if you are the type of person who gets nervous in front of a crowd, try to portray an image of calm and serenity – that attitude will transfer to your audience.
