Celebrating marriage equality

Australia voted “YES”

On the 15th of November 2017 Australians officially voiced their support for marriage equality with a landslide vote to support same-sex marriage.

According to ABC News “The Yes vote “overwhelmingly” won the national postal survey to legalise same-sex marriage. Almost 80% of Australians voted and 61.6% of respondents said gay and lesbian people should be able to marry.”

This historic event is close to our hearts

On the 27th of July 2017, our very own Assistant Operation Manager;  Tash married the love of her life, her best friend and partner of 7 years, Samantha (Sam). This wedding took place in Portugal. Although Portugal is a beautiful place, it is unfortunate that two beautiful Australian women, very much in love had to head overseas to make their commitment to each other official.

They chose Portugal not just because of the beautiful beaches, the sun and the sea but because Portugal was one of the few countries in Europe that recognises same-sex marriage and that doesn’t have residency laws. Meaning that they could swoop in, get married, and swoop out.

The Australian reception

23rd of September was the night of nights. On this night we celebrated the wedding with a reception at the beautiful Astoria Receptions. On this evening we pulled all the stops and put on an event that will be remembered by all in attendance. Described by Renata as “An amazing night full of love, laughter and dancing. Easily one of the most memorable weddings”

This is a beautiful story as described in Sam’s words “7 years ago is when our little fairy tale started. The last few months have been a roller coaster of celebrations and love! It has been the best few months of my life, getting married, travelling around Europe and then coming home to celebrate with our beautiful family and friends. Through all this, I’ve realised how strong our love is. As our love continues to grow stronger each day I can’t wait to see what our future holds and I for one can’t wait! Tash, I love you so much, you’re my wife & best friend and I couldn’t imagine my life any other way. Thank you for always supporting and loving me no matter what! I’m the luckiest person in world to be able to call you my wife”

Although this was a beautiful occasion, it would have been even better if the couple could have exchanged their vows in the presence of friends and family, had a beautiful reception and then jetted off to Europe for a honeymoon. This what equality is all about. Love is love. And it’s better late than never.
