Birthday parties for adults require very different planning than what is needed for children’s events. Often, milestone birthdays like 50ths grow into huge affairs, with hundreds of guests invited and large venues hired out in order to put on the biggest and best party possible.

Keep it classy
While it can be tempting to re-live your youth at birthday parties, decorating the venue with streamers, bright balloons and introducing party games into the mix, it might be a better idea to keep this party more mature and classy. That doesn’t mean you can’t decorate it – you may just want to use silver, navy and champagne tones as opposed to the bright yellows, pinks and greens you’d see at a child’s party.
Instead of the colourful neon lights and strobe effects seen at younger people’s events, consider event lighting hire that will have a more sophisticated effect. Try uplighting in shades that match the colour scheme of the party, or keep things old-school with exposed Edison bulbs strung from the ceiling.
Mind the music
The right soundtrack can make or break any event, especially when it’s a party where guests want to get down on the dancefloor. Utilise Spotify, Apple Music or Google Play to create a playlist that matches the demographics of the party goers. Then hire av equipment to ensure it’s broadcast around your venue with clarity. Alternatively, invest in a DJ or Band to really get your party started, but make sure that your AV matches the musical output.
Make sure you keep the birthday boy or girl in mind when planning the music, as ultimately it is his or her day to enjoy. Ask if there are any particular songs that must be played throughout the evening, and which styles of music are best avoided.
In general classic rock and pop tunes by the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Bon Jovi and Fleetwood Mac are bound to get people moving and grooving well into the night. Sprinkle in a few modern tunes and you’ve got a recipe for success.
Keep the guests in to know
Create an event on Facebook and invite the whole guest list or if you want to keep it a surprise, create a private Facebook Group. This will make it easy to communicate with everyone at the same time and keep everyone aware of the vital party information.
Plus it’s a good way to help people schedule it into their calendars and it will even send them a reminder so they are more likely to arrive on time.
