About us

Pro Light & Sound is one of Melbourne's leading AV and event production companies. We're the AV Stylists — the team brands and agencies trust to make their events look and sound exactly the way they were promised. We work to a simple philosophy: Every Event, Every Effort. Our custom builds and sets are a big part of what sets our events apart. We're looking for a skilled builder with a flexible schedule, to take ownership of our set-building — someone who wants consistent, varied work with the freedom of a flexible arrangement.

The role

This is a hands-on carpentry and set-building role, working from our Melbourne workshop. You'll take briefs and plans and turn them into show-ready custom builds. We're flexible on how the arrangement works — hours and structure can suit the right person — as long as you deliver quality work reliably. This is Melbourne-based, with no interstate travel.

What you'll do

• Build custom sets and scenic elements from plans and briefs. • Carpentry and set-building in the workshop and on-site. • Prep, assemble and finish builds to a high standard. • Manage your own builds through to completion, on time and to spec. • Assist with install and pack-down at events where needed. • Keep the workshop safe, clean and organised.

What we're looking for

• Strong carpentry and set-building experience — at least 2 years of experience • An eye for detail and pride in clean, well-made work. • Reliability and the self-direction to manage your own workload. • Physical fitness for hands-on workshop and on-site work. • A White Card or other relevant tickets preferred, but not essential. • A current driver's licence is preferred.

Why PLS

You'll own the builds that make our events stand out, with the flexibility to work in a way that suits you and the backing of a crew that cares about craft. Great projects, great people, and a “yes” mindset that runs through everything we do. We live by four principles, and it's on all of us, individually and as a team, to bring them to work every day:

Care. We treat every event like it's our own, with nothing left to chance. We care about the work and the people we do it with.

Clarity. Everyone knows the plan, their role, and the next step. We'll always be straight with you, and we hope you'll do the same for us.

Communication. Proactive updates, honest conversations, no surprises. We'd rather hear from you early than have you struggle alone.

Calm. We stay composed under pressure so the client only sees the magic. Things go sideways sometimes, and we steady each other through it rather than pointing fingers.

If that sounds like how you already move through the world, you'll feel right at home here!
